Common questions
How do I create a temporary email address?
Open onetempmail.com or the extension popup. An address is generated for you instantly. You can pick a different domain from the dropdown, or click New to regenerate.
I’m not receiving emails. What do I do?
- Wait 30–60 seconds — some senders take a moment.
- Check that the sender didn’t block disposable addresses — some services explicitly reject them.
- Make sure the address you pasted matches the one shown on the page exactly, including the domain after the
@. - If the sender’s mail provider requires SPF/DKIM, it may still send but the message can be delayed.
How long are my emails kept?
Incoming messages are kept only long enough for you to read them and are then automatically purged on a rolling schedule. The service is designed to be ephemeral — nothing is backed up.
Is this service free?
Yes. OneTempMail is free to use. There is no account, no signup, and no payment.
Can I send email from a temporary address?
No — OneTempMail is receive-only. Temporary addresses exist to receive verification codes and sign-up confirmations without giving out your real address.
Browser extension
Where do I download the extension?
Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Opera users can install from the Chrome Web Store. Firefox users can install from addons.mozilla.org. Links are added to this page as soon as the listings are live.
My extension keeps creating a new email when I reopen it.
This was a race condition fixed in version 1.1.0. Update the extension — in chrome://extensions enable Developer mode, then click Update. After updating, the popup will only regenerate when you click New.
How do I change the keyboard shortcut?
Open chrome://extensions/shortcuts in your browser. You can rebind Ctrl+Shift+E (open popup) and Ctrl+Shift+Y (copy current address). On macOS, Ctrl becomes ⌘.
How do I turn off desktop notifications?
Open the extension’s Settings page (right-click the toolbar icon → Options). Toggle Desktop notifications off.
Does the extension work on mobile?
Desktop Chromium browsers and desktop Firefox are supported. Mobile browser extension support varies by platform. On Firefox Android the extension may work; on mobile Chrome it will not until Google enables the extension API on mobile.
API
Is there a public API?
Yes — a public REST API is available under https://onetempmail.com/api/v1. It exposes endpoints for /domains, /email/generate, /email/inbox/:email, and /email/:id. CORS is enabled so it can be called from browser extensions and web apps.
Is there rate limiting?
Yes. Requests are rate-limited per IP. If you hit the limit, slow down or contact us for a higher limit for legitimate use cases.
Privacy & abuse
Someone used a temp address to abuse my site. Can you help?
We cooperate with legitimate abuse reports. Send the details — headers, timestamps, sample content — to [email protected].
How is my data handled?
See our site privacy policy and the extension privacy policy. No account is required and no personal data is collected.
